Delete Your Account or Data

Last updated: August 11, 2026

The short version

  • Delete your account yourself inSettings → Account inside Clef.
  • No longer able to sign in? Emailhello@playclef.com from your account address and we delete it for you.
  • Deletion is permanent. It ends access immediately, cancels any subscription, and cannot be undone.
  • You can also delete only some of your data and keep your Clef account, either in the app or by asking us. Seedeleting some of your data below.

Deleting your account from Clef

  1. Sign in at app.playclef.com.
  2. Open Settings → Account and choose to delete the account.
  3. Clef emails a one-time confirmation link. Open it while you are still signed in to the same account.

Confirmation immediately ends access and cancels the subscription. Clef then completes deletion from its own database, Stripe, and PostHog through a retryable background process. A temporary provider failure never restores access.

If you cannot sign in

You do not need the app installed, or a working login, to have your account deleted. Email hello@playclef.com from the address on the account and ask for deletion. We may need to confirm that the address is yours before we erase anything, so that nobody can delete someone else's account.

What is deleted

Your product data, credentials, sessions, and account identifiers are erased. That includes your email address and password, practice and memorization history, piece progress and review scheduling, settings, recordings, feedback, and piece requests.

What we keep, and why

  • Billing records, deletion receipts, and late-event tombstones for 10 years, as required for tax, refund, dispute, and reconciliation obligations. Stripe remains the authoritative invoice archive.
  • Product diagnostics are retained in PostHog for up to 24 months from collection. A confirmed account deletion requests earlier erasure of the diagnostics tied to your pseudonymous id and waits for the provider to complete it.
  • Teacher referral payout details, only if a referral created an ongoing payout obligation. The payout contact and attribution are held separately from the deleted product account while payouts may accrue, and for 10 years after final settlement. They are used only for payout administration.

Deleting some of your data, without deleting your account

You do not have to give up your Clef account to have data removed. There are two ways to do it:

  1. Delete recordings yourself. OpenRecordings in Clef, choose a recording, and delete it. It is removed along with its captured notes and timings. Clef never records audio or uses your microphone, so a recording is MIDI note data only.
  2. Ask us for anything else. Emailhello@playclef.com from the address on your account and say what you want deleted, for example your practice and memorization history, a specific piece's progress, your submitted feedback or piece requests, or your product diagnostics. We confirm the request comes from the account holder, delete what you asked for, and reply when it is done.

Some data cannot be deleted while the account stays open, because the account cannot function without it. That is your email address and password, which identify and secure the account, and the billing records described above, which we are required to keep. To have those removed, delete the account.

Separately, you can turn off product diagnostics entirely inSettings → Privacy. That stops future collection; use the email route above if you also want diagnostics already collected to be erased.

Cancelling is not deleting

Cancelling your subscription stops future charges and leaves your account and practice history intact until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting your account is the separate, permanent action described above. Deleting an account does not waive the30-day money-back guarantee or any statutory refund right; if the account is already gone, email us from the former account address.
